How Often Should You Change Your Oil?

Changing Oil in Car

Replacing your vehicle’s oil is essential to its performance. True, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are high-performance machines, but that doesn’t mean they don’t require basic maintenance and care. At RBM of Alpharetta’s service center, we perform the following services on new and pre-owned Mercedes-Benz vehicles:

    • Carry out a Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement* for model years 2009 and newer as part of Mercedes-Benz Service A** or Mercedes-Benz Service B**
    • Perform a Mercedes-Benz oil change*** for model years 2008 and older (when not part of Service A or Service B)
    • Complete an Oil Filter Replacement* using genuine Mercedes-Benz parts
    • Recycle the old filter
**Price advertised for Service A/Service B includes all factory-required components. Please refer to your maintenance booklet for the complete list of factory-required services and details on the specific intervals for your vehicle’s year and model. (Valid for MY09-newer).

Service A vs. Service B

There are a few differences between Mercedes-Benz Service A and B. Both are crucial service intervals that cover Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement. Service A is recommended after 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. Service B is performed after Service A, and is suggested after 20,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. If you follow your vehicle’s routine service intervals, you’ll never have to worry about keeping track of your car’s last Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement, as the built-in maintenance minder system will notify you when it’s time for either interval.

What Are Some Oil Service Tips?

Keep the following pointers in mind before and after every Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement:

  • Oil breaks down, even if you don’t drive your car every day. For this reason, it’s important to keep up with routine replacements.
  • With every Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement, get an Oil Filter Replacement as well to keep the new oil as clean as possible. Our service team will do this automatically as part of your Service A and Service B visits.
  • While conventional oil can be used in Mercedes-Benz vehicles, it’s highly recommended that you use synthetic.

Synthetic Oil vs. Regular Oil

What is synthetic oil? Synthetic oil is made from crude oil, but also includes powder additives and a carrier oil, which allows the additives to be allocated evenly. The refining process is much more strenuous for synthetic oil, giving it numerous benefits over conventional oil, such as:

  • Identical molecule sizes result in less friction
  • Decreased deposits
  • Additives help keep the engine clean
  • Greater performance in hot and cold temperatures
  • Fewer impurities due to refinement
