Mercedes-EQ Boost Technology, Explained

As we discussed above, Mercedes-EQ Boost is a “mild hybrid system.” Mild hybrid systems essentially add a bit of extra electric power to an internal combustion engine, less than a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid but enough to supersize your fuel efficiency and engine performance. 

Mercedes-EQ Boost vehicles contain an internal combustion engine and a small but powerful electric motor, along with an alternator and a starter. The electric system both boosts the engine’s performance and makes it more efficient, particularly when you switch into Eco mode (more on that below). It’s lighter, more compact, and less expensive than a traditional hybrid powertrain, while still earning all the benefits of a hybrid ride. 

How do you use the EQ Boost on a Mercedes-Benz? That’s the best part–it’s built-in, so you don’t have to do anything differently! If your car is EQ Boost-enabled, you’ll see an icon on your dashboard.
