What Does TPMS Mean?

TPMS Light on Dash

TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and it uses tire pressure sensors to track your tire’s air pressure. If the system senses that one or more of your vehicle’s tires are not at the recommended pressure, a warning light on your dashboard will either turn on or flash to alert you. Most new Mercedes-Benz vehicles offer this feature to help you to prevent tire failure and maintain smooth handling on the Atlanta roads.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System: Standard Features

The tire pressure monitoring system tracks the pressure inside your tires and alerts you when the levels fall too low. The TPMS dashboard warning light either looks like a flat tire with an exclamation point in the middle of it or illuminated letters “TPMS.” If you see the tire pressure light on, your tires are underinflated, which could cause the following to happen:

  • Poor traction
  • Decreased load carrying capability
  • A flat tire or blowout
  • Poor fuel economy

Proper tire inflation protects you from a potential accident. In the long run, it prevents your tires from wearing out prematurely and optimizes your vehicle’s fuel economy. This safety technology allows you to track your tire pressure without having to remember to manually yourself.

Proper Tire Inflation

Having either over-inflated or under-inflated tires often leads to several unwanted issues for Cumming drivers. However, having a properly inflated tire will:

  • Reduce tread movement, thereby increasing the life of the tire
  • Reduce rolling resistance which will increase vehicle efficiency
  • Increase water dispersion which decreases the likelihood of hydroplaning

To learn what the proper tire pressure is for your vehicle, check your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Ensuring your tires are accurately inflated is quick and easy and can save you money and stress in the long run.

You have a few options when it comes to filling up your tires:

  • Most gas stations will have an area designated to fill up tires.
  • You can bring your vehicle to our Alpharetta service center for full tire service.
  • If you need a little more air in your tires quickly, a bike pump works in a pinch!
