Mercedes-Benz GLE Overview
Capable, Rip-Roaring Performance
The GLE SUVs and Coupes deliver high-powered performance. Power on the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 and GLE 350 4MATIC® comes from a V6 engine and 7-speed automatic that generate 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, while the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 4MATIC® offers a more powerful V6 with 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE 550e includes the first plug-in hybrid powertrain from Mercedes-Benz – a biturbo V6 matched to an electric motor that cranks out 436 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque combined. The race-inspired AMG® GLE 63 and AMG® GLE 63 S are powered by a hand-built AMG® 5.5L biturbo V8 engine, which produces 550 to 577 hp and 516 to 561 lb-ft of torque.
As for the 2017 GLE Coupes, power is administered via two AMG® engines and a 9G-TRONIC® automatic transmission. The AMG® GLE 43 Coupe sports an AMG®-enhanced 362-hp 3.0L V6 biturbo rated at 384 lb-ft of torque. Despite its more powerful engine, the AMG® GLE 43 is about as fuel-efficient as the GLE 350, offering a 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway rating. The AMG® GLE 63 S Coupe, on the other hand, gets a stronger, handcrafted AMG® 5.5L biturbo V8 engine, capable of 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque. For personalized drive settings, the GLE Coupes come with AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT®, which includes driver-selectable ECO, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, and Individual modes.
Preventative and Assistive Safety
As family vehicles, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SUV and Coupe offer no shortage of safety features – both basic and high-tech. Adaptive braking technology, auto-dimming mirrors, 3-point seatbelts with ETDs, Trailer Stability Assist, rain-sensing wipers, and 11-way airbag protection are standard for top-notch safety in every driving situation. For dependable protection mile after mile, the GLE SUVs and Coupes also include Active Brake Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST®, and PRESAFE®, as well as a wide-angle rearview camera. The GLE Coupes go a step further to include standard Blind Spot Assist for safer lane changing, and Night Security Illumination for a well-lit path to and from your vehicle in darkness.
